How to register a domain?

Before you begin, you will need

  • An active domain registrant account (free to create at VONSUNG.IO)
  • A domain name in mind (e.g. mybusiness.rw or mysite.com)
  • A valid payment method (MTN MoMo, card, or VONSUNG Wallet)

Step 1: Search for your domain name

You need to check availability before you commit. Log in to your VONSUNG account and navigate to Services → Domain Registration. Type your desired domain name into the search bar and click Check Availability.
  • Enter your preferred name (e.g. mybusiness.rw).
  • Review available extensions — .com, .rw, .net, .org, and more.
  • If your first choice is taken, the system will suggest similar alternatives.
Tip: For businesses in Rwanda, we recommend registering both .rw and .com variants to protect your brand across both markets.

Step 2: Select your domain and registration period

  • Select your domain and registration period
  • Choose how long you want to own it
  • Click Add to Cart next to your chosen domain. On the next screen, select a registration period — typically 1 to 5 years. Longer periods often come with a discount.
Important: Domain registration is not automatically renewable. Enable Auto-Renew during this step to avoid losing your domain at expiry. You can add multiple domains to the same order before proceeding to checkout.

Step 3: Fill in WHOIS details

Fill in registrant (WHOIS) details. You'll be asked to provide contact information associated with the domain in the global WHOIS registry. This includes your full name or company name, address, email, and phone number.

  • Use real contact information — incorrect details can result in domain suspension.
  • Enable WHOIS Privacy Protection (free with VONSUNG) to hide personal details from public lookup tools.
Tip: WHOIS Privacy Protection replaces your personal data with VONSUNG's proxy contact — your identity stays private while the domain remains fully yours.

Step 4: Configure DNS setting

You will need to configure DNS settings to point your domain to a website or hosting plan. This step is optional during registration — you can always update DNS settings later from your dashboard. However, if you already have a hosting plan with VONSUNG, you can connect them now.

  • Select Use VONSUNG Nameservers if you're hosting with us — DNS will be pre-configured.
  • Select Custom Nameservers if you're using a third-party host (e.g. Netlify, Vercel, cPanel elsewhere).
  • You can manage A records, CNAME, MX (email), and TXT records from your domain control panel at any time.

Step 5: Review and complete payment

  • Review and complete payment → Confirm your order and pay securely.
  • Within minutes of purchase, you'll receive a verification email from VONSUNG. Click the verification link to confirm your registrant email address. This is required by ICANN within 15 days of registration.
Important: If you don't verify within 15 days, your domain will be suspended until verification is complete. Check your spam folder if you don't see the email.

Once verified, your domain is fully active. DNS propagation typically takes 15 minutes to 48 hours depending on your DNS settings and region.
